The college student bunk-in program at the East Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department is growing this year.
Last year, Jason Haas of Canastota lived at the station while studying fire science at Onondaga Community College. He answered fire calls and performed duties around the station in exchange for the free room.
Haas has returned for his second year of study and will be joined by two more OCC students, Chief Joe McAllister said. Andrea Herbuin of Yorkville and Nathan Baker of Vernon took up residence at the station last month. They completed orientation at the end of August and started making calls. ...
