MEXICO CITY _ President Vicente Fox canceled plans to give the traditional "cry" of independence in a capital plaza now filled with protesters and will instead oversee the celebration in his home state of Guanajuato, where the cry was first uttered, the government said Thursday.
Fox made the decision after the Senate unanimously passed a resolution asking for a change of venue in order to avoid a clash Friday in the Zocalo plaza between supporters of Fox and those of losing presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
