If the walls could talk
The west end, a favorite watering hole for Beat Generation writers such as Jack Kerouac, could soon get its own place in literary history. Restaurateur Jeremy Merrin (left), of Havana Central fame, bought the Morningside Heights restaurant this spring and plans to write a book about its colorful past.
The Broadway haunt between West 113th and West 114th streets, which is undergoing a $3 million renovation, will reopen next month as Havana Central at the West End. Mr. Merrin will begin videotaping longtime customers who want to share their memories of the beer-soaked jazz joint. He will use ...
