At the starting line of the Accenture Chicago Triathlon, Danny Ferrone had already come farther than most athletes.
Two months earlier, when he started his training, Ferrone didn't even own a bike. He hadn't been in a pool in over a decade. And he had cystic fibrosis, a disease that clogs his lungs and leaves him breathless.
"You know what a full breath feels like, but you can't take it," says Ferrone, 22, of Lake Forest.
