SAN JOSE, Calif.--Apr. 18--In a desperate gamble to return to profitability, Scorpion Technologies Inc. is trying one of the most unusual product switches in Silicon Valley history: from computer chips to poker chips.

The financially ailing computer company - at various times a seller of semiconductors, computer boards, software and personal computers - has agreed to swap $6.5 million in newly issued stock in exchange for ownership of a Russian casino on the Black Sea at the resort city of Sochi.
