Sep. 16--With their skirts flowing to the beat of the music, the Latin Roots Dance Group celebrated the Mexican Independence day early with a "kermes" hosted by La Paz de Cristo Lutheran Hispanic Outreach Friday evening. Kim Barnett, director of La Paz de Cristo said the word kermes means an event which would raise funds. Performing two dances, the girls of the group lead by Felicitas Swartwood took the stage after traditional Mexican food was served in the cafeteria. Barnett, who is also a deaconess said the event Friday was to celebrate the Mexican Independence, which is today and to raise funds for the organization.
