The venerable traveling-wave tube is the subject of this month's product survey. The principles of operation and the remarkable reliability of this class of device were the topics of a JED article ("Almost 20 Years and Still Going Strong", Mar. 1992, p.35).
The versatile, wide-band traveling-wave tube is found in a wide variety of EW, radar and communications applications. The TWT design is generally related to one of three functions. The tube may be used as a low-noise amplifier, as an intermediate power or as a high power amplifier.
