... NY-based old-time musician Louis Giampetruzzi, who passed away on Friday, July 21, due to complications from diabetes. Lou was an incredible musician who was the master of just about any instrument he picked up--especially the piano accordion, guitar and mandolin. With his wife Kate, he led one of the top string bands in NYC back in the late-1970s, the Brooklyn-based Wonderbeans. For one of their live radio performances on WBAI and WKCR, the Wonderbeans did an old Carter Family number, "Curtains of Night," which Lou and Kate sang in wonderful harmony. I loved it.
