Calculations of the full environmental costs of consumer items can be valuable--but only if properly used.
Consumers' growing interest in the environmental implications of their purchases has spurred various "buy green" campaigns. Related efforts include boycotts of products deemed environmentally harmful, green investing by people who consider a company's environmental record when purchasing stocks, and green marketing by companies that promote the environmentally attractive features of their manufacturing techniques or the ecologically correct nature of their products ("all natural" or "made from recycled materials").
