Sep. 17--Before Wal-Mart, Target, Cost Plus or Pier 1 Imports arrived in the Coachella Valley, would-be home decorators and gift-seekers shopped at The Alley inside the Palm Springs Mall.
More than 30 years later, the family-owned retail outfit named for its first cramped, brick-lined space in Palm Springs has seven locations currently in Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange counties and manages to stay unique among the retail titans now in town.
