Hussey returns as thorn in Cable's side. (Cross Country Wireless Cable President Lowell Hussey)

Lowell Hussey, who left his post as senior vice president of Warner Cable four years ago, is now back as a thorn in the side of southern California cable operators.

As the new head of Cross Country Wireless Cable -- a wireless outfit with 42,000 subscribers in Riverside, Calif. -- Hussey's main goal is to lure away cable subscribers.

Cross Country shook up Riverside operators when it launched two years ago with prices much cheaper than cable's. Since then, the operators -- Crown Cable, Tele-Communications Inc. and Comcast Cable -- have fought back by offering packages of services at better prices.
