BOSTON -- Recognizing that economic development in the region is a major focus in the races for public office around New England, The New England Council today released Economic Development in New England: A Guide for Candidates and Policymakers, to help inform and shape those discussions. Among the Council's recommendations for economic growth are: an increased focus on expanding high-wage, high-growth industries such as biotech manufacturing; an enhancement of the region's energy infrastructure including additional liquefied natural gas facilities; and expanded market based caps for H-1B visas in order to increase the number of skilled workers in the region.
