POSTAGE stamps can be bought on the Internet and printed on to envelopes at home under a scheme unveiled by the Royal Mail today.
But the Queen's head will not be included, ending a tradition dating back more than 160 years.
It will be replaced by a new form of barcode.
The computerised scheme will delight many customers tired of post office queues.
However the decision to abandon the Queen's head, ever-present on British stamps since the days of Victoria, will concern traditionalists - not least the millions of stamp collectors around the world. Some will ask whether the mail service still has the right ...
