Sep. 21--Broward prosecutors announced Wednesday that they have dropped a first-degree murder charge against Aimee Lee Weiss but replaced it with a new count of aggravated manslaughter. Prosecutors say Weiss concealed her pregnancy, delivered her baby alone, suffocated him and threw his body in a canal near her Tamarac home in April 2001. She was 17 at the time. Weiss has pleaded not guilty. She was facing life in prison but now faces a maximum 30-year sentence if convicted.
