Because human skin is on the we frequently forget that it is a vital body organ. Skin is our first line of defense against invading germs. It keeps us warm (and cool), helps us sense our environment, and synthesizes essential vitamin D. Yet we often take it for granted.
Although resilient and durable, our skin is often harshly challenged by the environment, especially during winter. Indoors, the air is hot and dry; outdoors, cold and dry. Combined with additional assaults by the wind and sun, our skin becomes dry, flaky, and most bothersome of all, itchy.
