Hear the word canoe and you probably think of wild rivers, clear lakes in the north woods and casting a big fly for salmon and trout. Hear the word kayak and you imagine paddling along fog-bound coasts with the cries of sea lions in the mist. But hear the word raft and most of us think of sinking ships and whether we'll survive until the Coast Guard finds us. Yet the raft, ungainly at first inspection, offers far more than its tubby lines portray, especially to the river fisherman with a family.
