STRAFFAN, Ireland _ Ireland was long overdue to host an event the magnitude of the Ryder Cup.
If Scotland is the "Home of golf," then Ireland is the game's closest neighbor in more than the literal sense. "The Home of Guinness" also is a Mecca of golf.
Ireland intends to show all its colors (mostly green) and passion (very loudly) when it hosts its first Ryder Cup, which begins Friday at the K Club. The biennial U.S.-Europe showdown will have a distinct Irish flavor.
"I think it will be the greatest Ryder Cup ever," said CBS golf analyst David Feherty, a native of Northern Ireland. "We don't like each other very ...
