Sep. 22--Imagine, if you will, this scenario:
You hire a handyman. His work is unexceptional, but you trust him.
Then one day, in the predawn darkness, he sneaks into your home, raids the cookie jar and helps himself to the cash you hid there. Later, after you discover the missing money, he tells you he was just helping himself to an early pay raise.
A judge rules he indeed had stolen from you, and you demand your money back. But the cocky handyman is unrepentant. He replies: "Why should I return it? I worked for it."
