Homicide is a major cause of death among persons aged [less than or less than] 18 years in the United States; among black males aged 15-24 years, homicide is the leading cause of death ( 1 ). Most efforts to characterize homicide among persons aged [- or=] 18 years have used databases at the national level (2-5) rather than at the state or local level or have been restricted in scope to specific types of homicides (e.g., gang-related homicide [2 ]). This report summarizes an epidemiologic study of homicides that occurred among persons aged[- or =] 18 years in Fulton County (Atlanta), Georgia (1990 population: 648,951), from 1988 through 1992.
