Sep. 22--A starter failed on a sewer pump Wednesday morning, causing 1,800 gallons of sewage to flow into the Neuse River, according to a sewage spill report filed by New Bern.The spill started around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at the pump station at 931 U.S. 70, according to the report.City crews arrived and needed about four hours to repair the pump station, but in that time about 32,000 gallons of sewage spilled. Crews managed to vacuum about 30,300 gallons of sewage out of a ditch and applied lime to the area.The 1,800 gallons that reached the river did not cause a fish kill, according to the report, and the Division of Water Quality was notified.Havelock ...
