Sep. 22--Local coal company heir Louis J. Pagnotti III is attempting to dismiss a perjury charge that he lied to a federal grand jury by contending he was granted immunity for his testimony.

As part of that case, a document has emerged that for the first time gives Pagnotti's explanation for his much-publicized, 2002 carjacking of a minivan containing two children. In part, he says in the document that he didn't know the children were inside and that a mental problem caused him to believe, wrongly, he had to rush to the airport in the minivan.
