Sep. 23--In its heyday in the early 1970s, Camp Mitchell was the place to be.
"Craig County is so spread out that the camp was the one place where kids could go in the summer and see their friends from school," said Vicky Mitchell Fisher, granddaughter of the camp's founder.
At the camp, children raced each other in the wide-open fields, high school students flirted with their sweethearts and hiked up trails and the whole community enjoyed the cool, blue, spring-fed waters of the only public swimming pool in the county.
Those days are gone now, replaced by green algae waters, overgrown trails, vines that climb ...
