Sep. 24--Pat Burrell and Carlos Ruiz joined the Phillies organization in 1998. That's about the extent of their similarities. Burrell came out of the University of Miami's baseball factory and signed an $8.5 million contract before playing a professional game. Ruiz came off the sandlots of Panama, a little-known middle-infielder-turned-catcher who was happy to get a $10,000 signing bonus.
