Democrats will pick up seats in several state legislatures, benefiting from the same voter angst seen at the national level. The political makeup of statehouses is critical to business taxes, transportation projects, education, economic development and much more.
Currently, the party breakdown is extraordinarily close. Republicans hold majorities in 20 statehouses. Democrats, in 19. In 10 states, parties divide power between the upper and lower chambers of the legislature. Neb.'s lawmakers are not identified by party.
