ST. PAUL, Minn. - The pope has approved female altar servers?
"Well, it's about time. It's been a long time coming," was Laverne Nickson's immediate reaction. She is administrator-coordinator for the National Association of Women Religious at its Chicago headquarters. Nickson, one of several experts and activists contacted by phone, added, "A lot of parishes already use female altar servers and have for quite some time. Now it's OK. Big deal."
