A final decision on South Africa's new elephant management policy, which could include culling, is not expected to be made before the end of the year.

Marthinus van Schalkwyk, the minister of environmental affairs and tourism, says he is studying proposals received from a panel of experts in August, and will be analysing what they have suggested before taking a decision on what to do next.
