BY ED HARRIS THE world's first specially bred "hypoallergenic" cats have gone on sale - for more than [pounds sterling]2,000.
A biotech firm says it has selectively bred the animals by reducing a certain type of protein that triggers allergic reactions. The cats will not cause the red eyes, sneezing and even asthma that some cat allergy sufferers experience, except in the most acute cases.
A study from 2000 suggested that people who were allergic to cats may find their condition made worse just by sitting next to someone who owns cats.
But despite costing [pounds sterling]2,104, there is already a waiting list to get one of the non-allergic animals.
