Each month BIGresearch, a Columbus, Ohio-based research firm, sends an online questionnaire to some 7,000 consumers asking them a battery of questions about their habits and preferences. Over the summer, BIGresearch asked men to choose the retailer where they shop most often for apparel. Research analyst Pamela Goodfellow noted that consumers had to type in the store names, which provided "completely unaided responses." The overwhelming top choice was Wal-Mart, chosen by nearly one-quarter of the respondents.
