No single entity manages the Internet, instead the 'Net represents a cooperative enterprise made up of interconnected computer networks. Thus no centralized updated directory of names and Internet IDs exists. Possibly in the future such a comprehensive database will develop, but for now, you need to query various partial data files and look up directories to find addresses for the Internet.
