The following guidelines are excerpted from a handbook prepared by Dr. Bruce J. Allyn, Program Director of the Conflict Management Group (CMG), and Steven Wilkinson, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Political Science, for the Project on "Ethnic Conflict Management in the Former Soviet Union." The project is sponsored by CMG and the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Sciences, and other partners in the former Soviet Union. Journalists from a dozen countries contributed to the project. The project is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
