Halfway through its 2006 campaign, United Way has raised 44.6 percent of its $61.8 million goal -- $27,553,358.
That's behind where the campaign should be, said campaign chair James Anderson in a release Tuesday morning, after the weekly campaign status meeting.
Last year, the campaign had raised 48.4 percent of its goal by the halfway mark. This year the stakes are higher because campaign chair Anderson issued a challenge to raise not only the base goal of $61.8 million, but an additional $2.5 million to help close the gap between needed services and actual services available in the region.
