Sep. 27--Salt Lake County has backed off its tough stance to prevent development of North Salt Lake's bench -- for now.
Arguing that the issue first should wend its way through the courts, the County Council voted 8-1 on Tuesday to table a resolution pledging to zone the 80-acre hillside as open space.
"Our whole thing is not to take sides until the courts are through," Councilman Joe Hatch explained. "But I hope Salt Lake City kicks their butt in court."
North Salt Lake officials want to add housing, a cemetery and trails on a portion of the 80 acres.
