Inside the halls of higher learning, students receive encouragement to expand on proven principles and stretch their imaginations. It makes sense that the design of these facilities should follow suit. When Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., and Oregon State University in Corvallis set out to create new buildings on their campuses, they wanted structures that integrated inspiring architecture with advanced HVAC systems. The USGBC's LEED rating system offered an appropriate framework for meeting these requirements.
