Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad attacks the role of the US and Britain as members of the UN security council given their support for what he describes as "atrocities" committed by Israel in Lebanon. His criticism comes as the Aug 31 deadline approaches for Iran to meet a Security Council resolution requiring it to suspend uranium enrichment, the most sensitive part of its nuclear programme. Tehran is also due to respond by next week to a package of incentives drawn up by the P5+1 - the security council's five permanent members plus Germany - to persuade Iran to curb the programme, which Tehran says is purely civil.
