Jonathan Papelbon will not appear in another game until spring training, but the Red Sox rookie should head home for the offseason on a positive note after being cleared to face hitters in batting practice this afternoon.
Papelbon, who has been sidelined since suffering a subluxation of his right shoulder on Sept. 1, was given the OK to face hitters today at 3:45 p.m. after an impressive side session earlier in the week.
The timing perfectly adheres to manager Terry Francona's intentions of having Papelbon game-ready by the end of the season in order to be able to follow a normal winter workout program.
