NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas _ Byron Nelson's streak of 11 tournament wins in 1945 was his signature claim to golf immortality and perhaps the greatest streak in sports. But maybe you didn't know about the one he had going the year before at San Francisco's Harding Park.
The city's best municipal course hosted not one but two PGA events in 1944: in January, the "Victory Open," nicknamed in support of the war effort, and the annual San Francisco Open in December.
