An individual citizen with a vision successfully lobbied the House of Representatives to place a statue of Brigadier General Francis Marion in Marion Park, located in Washington, D.C.
On a trip to the nation's capital, John McCabe stumbled upon the little-known park named after Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, native to his home state of South Carolina. McCabe decided to make the park a point of pride for South Carolinians. He felt the existing small sign reading "renowned state senator," was an understatement.
