Leadership at the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies was on the verge of accepting an offer to expand in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Florida media reported that more than one community in that state had promised relocation incentives to the La Jolla institution. Torrey Pines announced it would prefer to expand on 20 acres in the master-planned community of Tradition in Port St. Lucie, on Florida's east coast--if state funding becomes available.
A joint committee of the Florida Legislature votes Sept. 26 on whether to offer state incentives of $24.7 million to the La Jolla institute.
