TOKYO, Oct 3 Asia Pulse - Telecommunications equipment manufacturers are scrambling to kick off the power line modem business in Japan now that the Communications Ministry is expected to deregulate the indoor use of these devices.

NEC Corp. (TSE:6701) announced Monday that it will begin sales of home- and business-use power line modems. It plans to sell the home-use products to Internet service providers while supplying the business-use modems to factories and offices as a part of communications systems. The firm hopes to achieve sales of 20 billion yen in five years' time.
