MEXICO CITY -- The sands are shifting in the multichannel business South of the Border with the creation of a pan-Latin American direct-to-home package and the opening up of MMDS franchising in at least three key countries.
Three Mexican organizations that compete in the programming arena -- MVS-Multivision, Cablevision and PCTV -- are responding to the impending encroachment on their business by Hubbard Broadcasting Inc.'s United States Satellite Broadcasting and Hughes Communications Inc.'s DirecTv direct-to-home services by launching DTH packages of their own with a total of 30 Spanish-language channels.
