Long before the likes of Jennifer "Flashdance" Beals, J. Lo and Juicy Couture made it cool - even sexy - to don a sweatshirt, this super-comfy look had quite the loyal following, especially among athletes and collegiate types. In the flag-waving world of who invented what, America gets credit for jeans and, occasionally, the T-shirt. But the sweatshirt - marking its 80th birthday - is somehow overlooked, even if it does form a casualwear lover's ideal trifecta with its two cousins.
