SAN DIEGO _ Anthony La Russa Jr. celebrated his 62nd birthday on Wednesday by supervising a team workout at Petco Park. And that's where he most loves to be, on a baseball diamond.
Age has not mellowed La Russa, reduced his legendary intensity, warmed his heart or softened his chin.
The 2006 regular season bruised La Russa internally, but one game into the National League Division Series against San Diego, he has a 1-0 lead and is trying to engineer an upset over the favored Padres.
