Importing Minnesota gophers to the red-and-white clad Badger State might be unheard of, but prairie chickens are a different matter.
That became apparent in recent weeks when the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources allowed the Society of Tympanuchus Cupido Pinnatus (STCP) to live-trap greater prairie chickens and send them to Wisconsin.
As of last week, the Wisconsin DNR had received 40 prairie chickens that were released by STCP and the Wisconsin DNR on the Buena Vista Grasslands Wildlife Area in Portage County.
