Oct. 5--That new DVD player or computer made in far-off Asia might have been transported to the United States on a cargo plane owned by Norwalk-based Southern Air. Southern Air Inc., which bills itself as the fastest growing all-cargo airline, last month bought its sixth aircraft, a Boeing 747-200, from Nippon Cargo Airlines Co. Ltd., and followed it up last week with the acquisition of two more 747-200s from competitor Atlas Air. The eight aircraft are leased to cargo carriers, but they are manned by Southern Air flight crews and maintained by company ground staff across the United States and in Asia.
