Russia tops list of applicants to European Court of Human Rights

Moscow, October 5 (Interfax) - Russia tops the list of applicants to the European Court of Human Rights, Court President Luzius Wildhaber said in an interview with the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets.

"The same as a year ago, Russia tops the list in of the number of applicants. We had received 18,500 cases from Russia by September 2006, which was 20.8% of all lawsuits," he said.

"The number of lawsuits from Russia grew by one-third this year," he said.

Romania (11.6% of the total), Turkey (9.8%), Poland (7.1%) and Ukraine (6.8%) ...
