Oct. 1--BANGALORE, India -- Production of new Kannada films stopped on Saturday. The Karnataka Film Producers' Association at an emergency meeting on Friday night decided not to produce any films from now on.
Over 150 Kannada film producers, who met at a private hotel, said they had to take the extreme step because of heavy cost of production, jumps in star remunerations, harassment from cine workers' unions and exorbitant rentals charged by theatres. Association president Sandesh Nagaraj said they had incurred a loss of over Rs 65 crore since January.
