When the Dutch pension system is forced to take action, financial houses sit up and take note, hoping for a windfall. So it was with recent regulatory changes that made schemes pay closer attention to short-term changes in their financial health.
These changes prompted expectations of an explosion in the use of inflation- linked bond sales, but while there are indications of healthier markets, enthusiasm is muted. "The second half of last year was very quiet in inflation-linked debt sales, but we're seeing a higher investment levels and a greater interest now," says Alan James, head of global inflation-linked research at Barclays Capital.
