Oct. 4--The Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District received welcome news last week when district officials were informed they would be the recipients of a $100,000 grant from Boeing and the Seattle Mariners.
Executive Director Marc Connelly said the grant, which will help pay for the ball fields at Sehmel Homestead Park is huge for Gig Harbor.
"First and foremost there is a definite need out here in the Gig Harbor Peninsula," Connelly said. "There is a shortage of top quality, youth baseball fields in the area." Park officials said a recent study showed the area was in need of about 14 more fields to accommodate the area's Little League, ...
