There is a place on the Welsh coast where the tide funnels in between the shore and an island, filling the bay like a big bowl. When the tide turns, water spurts out through the gap at 9 knots, creating waves as big and fast as the white water on the turbulent Colorado River.
``I swear I think my heart stopped,'' Stan Chladek says in his rich accent as he relives a wild sea kayak ride through that gap. ``I was really scared. And that was with a neap tide. We could never have done it with a spring tide.''
