Cut-crystal goblets and fine-china placesettings look their best under store lighting. The glitter and different patterns always caught my eye as a young child. Fine china and bridal departments seemed very glamorous places to an 8-year-old. I loved walking through these departments in downtown department stores with my mother. I didn't want to touch anything, so she could relax and enjoy the artful displays.
This must be when I noticed fancy painted trays. They were usually lined up high above the clusters of placesettings.
